From the Office of Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer

Announcing the return of Fresh Food for Seniors Program for 2017 Starting today and through November

In 2012, Borough President Brewer partnered with GrowNYC, the Department for the Aging, and more than a dozen senior centers to deliver fresh, locally-grown fruit and vegetables for just $8 a bag. This year, the Fresh Food for Seniors program has expanded to include neighborhoods stretching from the West Village to Northern Manhattan – and now, Roosevelt Island!

Seniors pay $8 for a bag containing five-to-six varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables – a retail value of $15 to $18. Orders are pay-as-you-go, one week ahead of each delivery date. Fresh Food for Seniors allows seniors to sign up for just one order at a time so that they can decide how much food they need, when they need it.

Produce is ordered through GrowNYC at wholesale prices from farmers in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania.

All New Yorkers need access to healthy food that is locally sourced whenever possible. Access to fresh and local food for vulnerable and low-income populations the most pressing food and nutrition issue facing New Yorkers today.

Sign up and Delivery dates vary per site. Contact Shula Warren at 212-669-2392 or a participating Senior Center near you for more information.

Coming in August: Yorkville, East Harlem, Central Harlem, West Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood — In partnership with Corbin Hill Food ProjectThe Doe Fund, and UJA-Federation of New York. Please visit manhattanbp.nyc.gov/html/issues/seniorfoodprogram.shtml for updates.
